Features This Week
What's in this e-Newsletter
This week I wanted to talk about a free service that I thought could benefit almost anyone who has a website. As well I wanted to tell you a little bit about one of interesting features that's possible with an e-Newsletter.
Pushing The Edge of Email
Some dirt on the e-Newsletter software I wrote.
After having a brief conversation with a client about my e-newsletter program, I thought this week it would be good to tell you a little more about it. I noticed in my conversation that this client was shocked when they heard about one of its features. I then realized that it's probably unknown to most people that what we were talking about was even possible. So I thought it might do you a little good to tell you about that specific feature.
It's widely known that you're able to track visitors on your website. You can see how many people visited and other data. Similar to that, this shocking feature of the e-newsletter software is that its ability to track how many people opened the newsletter and specifically who is was. How it works is actually pretty simple. Using images in the email, when the images are viewed that view is tracked just like someone where viewing a web page.
This incite is definitely useful which actually beings up a good point. We can't loss focus of the fact that where not actually able to see who is viewing our website, email, ect in the same fashion as you could with an physical store front. So the uses of such tricks help fill that gap. Which leads me into this week's tip, filling that gap in regards to your website views.
Google Analytics
Using google to know what's happening with your viewers
Goggle Analytics, for those of you unfamiliar with it, is a free service provided by Google that will track the number of visitors to your website along with other data about them. It's actually a very powerful tool. To get started using this service you simply embed some code into your website. Once embedded and activated you'll start collecting data on people visiting your website.
You can find out the number of people that viewed your site, their geographic locations, what type of computer software they used to view the site, and even how they where referred to you. The referral data is very detailed and can help you understand where people are coming to your website from. I suggest viewing this data regularly to see what your website traffic is like. You'll be able to find out what search terms people are using to view your website and to see comparisons between search engine traffic verse direct traffic (no referral website, the viewer typed in your web address and came straight to your website). With this data you can analyze your website in relation to the types of visitors you're getting and get an idea of what their looking for.
Another interesting feature of Google Analytics is the Exit Page analyzer. You're able to see the top web pages that viewers leaving your website from. This is useful as it will help you know where people are getting disinterested while viewing your website. Then with that data you can focus on making those top exit pages more attractive in order to retain the viewer a little longer and get them to buy your product, service, or hear your message.
Well there are lots of other features and useful ways of implementing them but for now that all I'm going to go over. You can check out more on Google Analytics at www.google.com/analytics/. I hope that this provided you with an understanding of how you can easily and for free find out how your website is being used.
