Website Spring Cleaning Time! Overview of this week's e-Newsletter This week I thought it would be interesting to write about spring cleaning for your website, being that it is spring time is now starting for most of us. Therefore this week I've included a few quick tips on getting your site ready for the summer.
Making Sure Information Is Up To Date... Making sure the information on your website is accurate. Now is a great time to review the information on your website and get it up to date. As time goes by it's sometimes forgotten or lost that some changes that occur should also be reflected on our websites. As well the changing of the seasons and beginning a new year can require some changes to keep our websites up to date. This past month, I even spotted Google forgetting to make a date change on their website from 2008 to 2009!!
Therefore some important things to review on your site include contact information (phone numbers, emails, fax numbers, etc...), dates for
events posted on your site, any old 2008 or later dates on your site and even your copyright date at the bottom of your site should be updated to reflect this year's date. Sprucing Things Up A Bit! Spring time can call for sprucing things up a bit. For some of us, spring time might also be a great time to spruce some thing up on your site. A nice way of tackling this would be to sit down and go through each page of your site and write up a list of all the things you find that might need tidying up. This could be things like images that could be changes out and make more professional looking, some textual/wordage changes and of
course it could go as far as redesigning your site to better suit you or your company. Another great tip, and something I do across my own websites is to take a look at the visitor stats for my websites, such as by viewing Google Analytics (which is a free services from Google that records and tracks data about people visiting your website). I know were my website visitors are coming from in order to get to my website and can find out how I can make that better - ie. get more people coming from there. And I look over which pages most people are leaving my site from and from what pages they are reaching the goal(s) I have for my site (which a goal could be as simple as they sign up for a service on my site). I then analyze how I can strengthen those web pages that are getting a higher return and how I can correct those pages that are not preforming as well. I've found by doing this you can really sky rocket the usage and return you
get out of your website!
Final Words Ending comments Well I hope that helps get you on the right track to getting your website(s) ready for the summer and gives you some things to think with in regards to making your website more efficient.
